William Ashton Taylor was the last person to go through the Dunhill apprentice program, in which one learned to make a pipe from start to finish. Dunhill subsequently changed to an assembly line approach, but Bill Taylor still makes his hand made briars the old fashioned way, incorporating everything he learned during his days at Dunhill with some innovations that are uniquely his. All Ashtons are oil cured using a process developed by Taylor which gives each pipe its unique smoking qualities.
